Wall Of Stuff

BarCamp NOLA 2010 Presenter: Presented at the 3rd annual tech conference: BarCamp NOLA.  Last year I talked about why the mobile web was important.  This year I went a totally different route.  My presentation?  Strategies & Tips For Becoming A Better Gamer in First Person Shooters.

Speaking @ AFCEA Silicon Bayou Awards Banquet: I spoke at the AFCEA Silicon Bayou Awards Banquet to a group of students who are pursuing careers in technology.  My message to them?  Don’t be afraid to try different things until you find whats right for you and love (really love) what you do.  Jobs are hard and careers take time to build, but if you love what you do you’ll have a sense of accomplishment when you achieve your goals.

New Orleans 3.0: Thanks to Eddie Francis, co-host of Sunday Morning Journal, I got to go on 98.5FM to talk about the current state of technology in city, how I get to be the geek that I am, and where we need to be for our city to compete with others.  Read the blog post about it or listen to the audio.

Booting Up: City Business did a story about the tech industry in New Orleans (subscriber content) and how they are holding up against the economy.  I happened to be featured in this story talking about how NewOrleans Tech started in the midst of all this and how we operating.

SXSW Panel: South By Southwest (SXSW) is an interactive gathering that happens every year in Austin, TX bringing together film, music, and tech figures from around the country. Thousands of potential workshops/panels are submitted by only a couple hundred are selected. This year, myself and group are representing for New Orleans in a panel that will discuss how our technology community has grown over the past year and how others can kick start this in their own city.  Not only that but the who-who’s of tech figures will be there along with hundreds of geeks!

IgniteNOLA: The very first IgniteNOLA took place in New Orleans in early February and I was apart of the group that got to see the magic happen. The short version of the story is that you get speakers who are passionate about a topic, any topic and give them five minutes, twenty slides, and fifteen seconds between each slide to share their knowledge with the audience. There’s not a lot of times you get to say that you did something first in life and I was glad to be apart of this amazing team that crafted a successful event.

NewOrleans Tech: The tech community in New Orleans was really booming in 2009 but no one was there to tell their story. No local media, bloggers, or columnist took the time to highlight all the good things that were happening in regards to grassroots groups, tech startups, and events happening in the city. That’s where we came in. To fill niche and be the storytellers for the tech community.

Digital Gumbo: My fifteen minutes of fame came from a WWL-TV Digital Gumbo spot. Mark Lewis, who is the President of the Louisiana Technology Council and I talked about NewOrleans Tech on the morning show.  We discussed tech startups, how New Orleans is becoming a hotbed for technology, and how new initiatives are getting started.  I thought no one would be up at 6AM in the morning to watch it but I still have people telling me that they saw me on T.V.

BarCamp NOLA 2009 Presenter:  At the second annual BarCampNOLA, I got a chance to talk about “The Importance Of The Mobile Web“.  I wanted to paint a picture that the mobile web, the way people interact, browse, and search for information on a mobile device will be the future of the Internet.  The developer and people behind these technologies need to understand that the shift has already begin taking place and now is the time to think about different design methods for new arenas.

Presenting At The National Black Catholic Conference: I had a great experience as a presenter at this conference.  My workshop: Using Technology to Share the Mission of the Church.  I geared it toward people that’s aren’t into technology to show them that technology is not bad and it’s not anything to be afraid. Utilized the right way, it can be used as a tool to spread your faith or connect with others.
